Sofa & Upholstery Cleaning in Clinton, MA

A sofa takes more direct human contact than anything else in a house. Skin, hair, food, pets and the oils from all four go into the same few square feet every evening, and fabric holds them quietly until the day the room starts to smell lived-in rather than clean.

A spotless bathroom with polished marble floor after a residential cleaning

For the piece of furniture everybody uses and nobody cleans — and for households with pets, where the arms and the seat backs carry far more than they look like they do.

The wear is not even, and neither is the soil

Upholstery does not get dirty uniformly. It gets dirty where bodies meet it: the front edge of the seat, the arms, the headrest line along the back, and the gaps where cushions meet. Those places take oil from skin and hair, and oil is what turns ordinary dust into a mark that will not brush off. The rest of the piece can be almost clean while the contact points are doing all the work.

What gets attention

Seat cushions on both sides, and the deck underneath them. Arms and the front edge, which take the most. The back and headrest line. The crevices where crumbs and coins and worse collect. Where cushion covers are removable and the maker intends them to be removed, we work with that; where they are not, we do not force it.

Fabric decides what is possible

Different fabrics tolerate different things, and some tolerate very little. We look at the piece and the maker's label before anything else, and if the safe answer is that a fabric should not be wet-cleaned at all, that is what we will tell you. A sofa that has been damaged by the wrong treatment cannot be undone, which is why we would rather decline a piece than guess at it.

What this includes

  • Seat cushions, both faces, and the deck beneath
  • Arms and the front edge of the seat
  • Backs and the headrest line
  • Crevices between and behind cushions
  • Dining chairs and occasional chairs
  • A fabric check before any treatment, and a straight answer if the piece should be left alone

Every visit also follows The V Detail Checklist — the places most companies walk past.

Common questions

You might be wondering

Can you get pet smell out of a sofa?

Often a great deal of it, because most of what is smelled is in the fabric and the cushion faces. If it has gone through into the foam, cleaning the surface will improve it without ending it, and we will tell you that is the likely outcome rather than let you find out afterwards.

How long before we can sit on it?

It depends on the fabric and the room, so we will give you a straight answer for your piece on the day and before we leave.

What if the label says do not wet clean?

Then we do not. Some fabrics — certain velvets, some silks and a number of synthetics — mark permanently from water alone. We will say so and stop rather than risk the piece.
